New buses. The long-suffering tender for the fleet renewal of the Athens and Thessaloniki bus companies has been completed, three years after it started, with the signing of the contract for the supply of all 200 new natural gas buses by Industria Italiana Autobus on Wednesday. An Athens bus driver has been removed from his position after reportedly allowing a minor drive his bus.

In a statement, the Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA) said it had removed the driver after receiving a complaint that he let a minor drive the bus on the 749 route.

The route runs from the Gennimata settlement to Ano Liosia suburban railway station in the north of the city.

The operator immediately proceeded to investigate the incident and interview the driver.

“OASA condemns any behavior that endangers the safety of passengers and which is contrary to its operating rules,” it said.
