A drunk driver struck a traffic officer early Friday morning in the Omonia area, in central Athens.
The incident reportedly began when traffic police signaled a vehicle to stop for a DUI test near Omonia. Instead of complying, the driver accelerated, hitting an officer. The officer sustained a fractured ankle and was transported to the hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Authorities later located and arrested the 24-year-old driver, who was confirmed to be under the influence of alcohol.
The injured officer is the same traffic policeman who was nearly run over by popular singer Christos Mastoras in a widely reported incident just days ago.
