A request filed by a relative of a victim of the Tempe train accident to upgrade charges against Hellenic Train executives has been rejected by the appellate investigator.
According to state broadcaster ERT, the relative, who is a lawyer, sought to escalate the charges against two company executives from misdemeanors (manslaughter by negligence) to felonies.
Following the rejection of the request, the relative is expected to file an appeal with the Council of Appeals in the coming days. Meanwhile, the investigation into the communications on the night of the accident – particularly between stationmasters and train operators – has been completed.
The report will be officially submitted and is expected to reach the appellate investigator’s office by next week. It is noted that the findings on the use of silicone oils are still pending.
