Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will participate in the European People’s Party (EPP) leaders’ meeting, taking place Friday and Saturday in Berlin. On the sidelines of the talks, the prime minister is scheduled to meet with several key figures, including the leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Friedrich Merz, the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, the EPP group leader in the European Parliament, Manfred Weber, and the president of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.

At the invitation of Weber and Merz, EPP party leaders – including 15 heads of state and government – as well as the presidents of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the European Parliament, Metsola, will gather just weeks ahead of the German elections (February 3) and shortly before the inauguration of the new US president. Key topics on the agenda include the European Union’s role in the evolving global landscape, issues of security, competitiveness, and reducing bureaucracy.

“The EPP’s electoral program is now becoming the EU’s work agenda,” said Weber ahead of the meeting.

During the two-day event, hosted at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation headquarters in Berlin, Mitsotakis will meet with Friedrich Merz, the CDU/CSU candidate for chancellor. According to current polls, the CDU/CSU maintains a strong lead with 31-33% of the vote, more than 10 points ahead of the second-place Alternative for Germany (AfD). Merz is widely expected to lead the next governing coalition.
