The three police officers who failed to arrest a drunk driver who later caused a fatal traffic accident that claimed the life of a 22-year-old man in Hania, Crete, on Saturday, have been suspended from duty.

The officers had found the driver driving under the influence and without a license shortly before the deadly accident.

Earlier Wednesday, the driver was remanded in custody following his testimony.

The suspension of the officers follows the announcement on Tuesday that the top brass of Hania police department has been dismissed in the wake of the traffic accident and were being replaced by officers from Athens.
