A new contactless payment system, “tap2ride,” launches on Wednesday, enabling passengers to use bank cards to board all public transport modes of the Athens Urban Transport Organisation (OASA).

In addition to the existing tickets, passengers will now have the convenience of using their bank card or smart mobile phone to access public transport services in the capital.

The contactless payment system has been successfully piloted since last April on the express bus lines serving Athens International Airport.

Under the new system, passengers traveling on OASA’s public transport network can simply tap their bank card on validation machines displaying the contactless transaction symbol, with the fare being charged directly to their account.
