Defense Minister Nikos Dendias will meet his British counterpart John Healey in London on Tuesday to discuss enhancing bilateral defense ties.
The visit comes amid recent concerns over Turkey’s discussions with two consortia regarding the purchase of Eurofighter jets and Meteor missiles, which have raised security worries in Greece.
French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu recently noted that the issue was not directly related to France, as it lacks oversight of British arms exports.
“Do we have a role in this matter? The answer is no. The Meteor missiles are on the Eurofighter. We are not the ones selling the system to Turkey,” said Lecornu, emphasizing that “we do not control British arms exports.”
Athens remains cautious about the impact on regional security. Dendias’ trip also seeks to strengthen Greece-UK defense relations, which have been relatively limited in recent years.
Key topics will include defense equipment, such as upgrades to the Super Vita missile boats and Commander radar systems, as well as broader defense cooperation.
Dendias arrived in London on Friday and has already met with UK National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell. On Monday, he will meet with British officials, including the high-ranking ministers for the armed forces and the defense industry, to discuss defense innovation and technology.
