A prosecutor in Athens has ordered a preliminary investigation into the assault of Sotiris Notaris, head of the Mathematics Department at the University of Athens (EKPA), by a group of masked individuals last Friday.
The attackers reportedly threatened his life with the words, “If you ever say anything again, we will kill you.”
The incident has raised concerns about academic freedom and the safety of university officials. The prosecutor is examining whether the attack violated laws related to disrupting services and other offenses.
Meanwhile, the rector of EKPA has filed a complaint with the Hellenic Police and has requested increased security following the intrusion of the group of masked individuals.
