The Greek singer’s nephew has spoken about the family’s grief, his uncle’s health and whether the much-loved performer will ever return to the stage.
Greek singer Notis Sfakianakis has marked his birthday under particularly difficult circumstances, as the date also coincides with the first anniversary of his wife Kili’s death.
The singer, who has largely withdrawn from public life and the Greek music scene in recent years, has continued to keep a low profile following the loss of his wife, with whom he built his family.
His nephew, Konstantinos Sfakianakis, spoke about the emotional significance of the date during an interview with ANT1’s morning programme To Proino, telling journalist Thanos Vagios how the family has been coping with the loss.

Birthday now carries mixed emotions
Konstantinos explained that his uncle’s birthday had traditionally been an occasion for celebration, not only for the family but also for the many fans who have followed the singer throughout his career.
However, Kili’s death on the same date has fundamentally changed its meaning.
“Until last year, it brought us nothing but joy and happiness. In a way, my uncle’s birthday was a party for us,” Konstantinos said.
Reflecting on the loss, he explained that Kili had been much more than an aunt to him and held a special place within the family.
“Unfortunately, it coincides with the day we lost our aunt, his wife and the mother of his children. Her loss was not simply a loss for me. She was not just an aunt. As you can understand, it now brings us mixed emotions,” he said.
Nephew reveals close family bond
Konstantinos also spoke about his particularly close relationship with the singer, revealing that Notis had played an important father figure role in his life.
He explained that he and his siblings lost their father when they were young, with their uncle remaining a constant source of support ever since.
“We lost our father very early, my siblings and I, and from then until today, my uncle has stood by us like a father,” he said.
He confirmed that they remain in regular contact and also provided an update on the singer’s health.
“He is there for us in every way. We communicate, of course, and he is in excellent health,” Konstantinos stated.
Will Notis Sfakianakis return to the stage?
The possibility of Sfakianakis returning to live performances remains a major question among his fans.
The singer has been absent from Greece’s nightlife and entertainment circuit for several years, with no official announcement regarding a comeback.
Asked whether he believed his uncle would return to performing, Konstantinos stressed that only the singer himself could make such an announcement.
However, offering his personal opinion, he expressed doubt that a return was likely.
“Regarding his return, he is the only person who can communicate that. If you ask me personally what I believe, I don’t think he will return. However, only he knows that,” he said.
For now, Sfakianakis continues to remain away from the spotlight, while his family remembers Kili and adjusts to a birthday that now carries both celebration and sadness.
