The investigation began to uncover the scale of the attacks when security forces discovered the bodies of three people inside a car near the village of Ayazini. Officers subsequently found three more victims in a second vehicle near the village of Kıyır.

Investigators established that the suspected gunman then left the initial attack locations and travelled to the village of Yukarıtandır, where he shot two female teachers.

Emergency services rushed the two women to hospital with serious injuries, but both later died, bringing the death toll to eight. Another victim remains in critical condition.

Forensic teams collected evidence at the attack scenes before recovery crews used tow trucks to remove the targeted vehicles.
