BAKU, October 2026 — The Greece U15 team thrashed Australia 7-2 at the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival in Azerbaijan. The young Greeks have since reached the semi-finals.
Coach Stelios Bikas picked the whole squad from the Greek football federation’s youth development scheme, known as Anagennisi. His players come from clubs such as Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, PAOK and AEK.
Greece U15 too strong for Australia
The match took place on 28 October, the federation said. Grigorios Priovolos opened the scoring in the first minute and later added a second goal.
Christos Kakalis, Angelos Kormanos, Athanasios Fleggas, Fotios Solomidis and Athanasios Dimitrakopoulos found the net. Australia replied twice late in the match.

The win sent Greece into the round of 16. By then, the Greece U15 side had won six games in a row in Baku.
Games at the event use eight players a side and two halves of 20 minutes. FIFA designed the format to suit young players at this age.
Australia’s squad included Western Sydney Wanderers teenager Will Karatasos. Even so, the Australians could not stop the Greek attack.
Penalties and a comeback
Next, Greece faced Uruguay in the round of 16. Kormanos scored early with a fine strike, but Uruguay levelled before full time. Greece then won the penalty shoot-out 4-2.
That result gave the team its seventh straight win and a quarter-final place against Guinea on Thursday 29 October.
Greece fell behind, as Guinea scored in the 21st minute. However, Priovolos levelled after a pass from Kormanos, and Kakalis sealed a 2-1 win on the counter-attack.
As a result, Greece is now among the last four teams in a tournament that drew 191 FIFA member federations. Spain, who beat Colombia 5-0, stand between Greece and the final.
Greece meets Spain in the semi-final on Thursday afternoon, Greek time. For the Greece U15 group, the run is already a strong reward for the federation’s youth work.
