The Greek Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) enforcement teams have dismantled an organised smuggling network operating across multiple commercial sectors, seizing illegal alcohol, tobacco products, 9,100 litres of fuel, four LPG tankers, vehicles suspected of tampering and a firearm during a raid in Aspropyrgos, western Attica.
The operation followed an investigation by AADE’s DEOS enforcement teams, which analysed intelligence and data from the authority’s information systems before conducting an on-site inspection at a car parking business in Aspropyrgos.
During the coordinated raid, mixed DEOS teams uncovered and seized:
- 112 bottles of smuggled vodka
- Four liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tankers
- 9,100 litres of fuel, including diesel and petrol
- One conveyor belt used for smuggled tobacco products, including cigarettes
- One 6mm pistol
- 89 rounds of 9mm ammunition
- Six lorries showing signs of tampering
- Two vans showing signs of tampering
- Three private passenger cars showing signs of tampering
- One forklift
- One pallet truck.
The investigation uncovered organised illegal activity and serious violations of tax and customs legislation.
Inspectors also identified breaches involving the recording of vehicles in the parking business’s digital customer register. The findings point to an organised network operating across several commercial sectors.
Preliminary findings indicate that the operation may have caused substantial losses in public revenue through unpaid customs duties and taxes.
Authorities arrested four people and brought them before a prosecutor. Investigators have filed a criminal case involving alleged felony-level offences related to tax evasion, smuggling, vehicle tampering and violations of firearms legislation.
The investigation continues as authorities seek to locate three additional people allegedly involved and identify connected criminal networks.
