German Tourist Rescued After Boat Catches Fire and Sinks Off Lesvos – Greek City Times

A German passenger has been hospitalised with burns after a boat caught fire and sank off the coast of Tarti, near Plomari on the Greek island of Lesvos.

The incident occurred approximately one nautical mile from the coast, prompting a rescue operation after flames engulfed the vessel.

The passenger, who was the only person aboard, was rescued by a nearby boat named Dimitroula. A Hellenic Coast Guard patrol vessel subsequently transferred him to Skala Loutron.

An ambulance from Greece’s National Emergency Aid Centre (EKAB) transported the injured man to Mytilene Hospital, where he is being treated. His condition has been reported as outside immediate danger.

The fire completely destroyed the boat before it sank. The Coast Guard reported that no marine pollution had been detected following the incident.

The Plomari Coast Guard Station is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Video footage shows the incident off the coast of Lesvos.
