Body of Missing Israeli Hiker Found on Mount Olympus After More Than Two Weeks – Greek City Times

The body of an Israeli hiker who disappeared while climbing Mount Olympus has been found after more than two weeks of searching, according to Greek and Israeli media reports.

Ami Yogev, 46, was last heard from on September 20, when he contacted his mother during his ascent of Greece’s highest mountain.

His body was reportedly discovered in the Mavrolakkos area at an altitude of approximately 1,800 metres, in rugged terrain that is difficult to access.

According to Israeli media, a group of Israeli volunteers searching for Yogev located his body while working alongside firefighters involved in the search operation.

Two disaster response units and a foot patrol from the Litochoro Fire Service subsequently took part in recovering his body from the mountainous area.

The search had continued for more than two weeks following his disappearance, with rescuers facing the challenges of Mount Olympus’s steep terrain and remote locations.

Mount Olympus, which rises to 2,918 metres, is Greece’s highest mountain and attracts hikers and climbers from around the world. However, its demanding trails and rapidly changing weather conditions can pose serious risks, particularly in remote areas.

The circumstances surrounding Yogev’s death have not been detailed in the available reports.
