Michelin Guide to Announce 2027 Greece Restaurant Selection on October 20 – Greek City Times

For the first time, the MICHELIN Guide’s Greece selection will extend beyond Athens to include Thessaloniki and Santorini, expanding the international spotlight on Greek gastronomy.

The MICHELIN Guide will unveil its 2027 restaurant selection for Greece on October 20, introducing a broader geographical focus that will bring Thessaloniki and Santorini into the prestigious guide alongside Athens.

The MICHELIN Guide will announce its 2027 Greece restaurant selection on October 20, with Thessaloniki and Santorini joining Athens for the first time.

The announcement was confirmed by the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO), which has partnered with the MICHELIN Guide to promote Greece’s culinary reputation internationally.

The expansion marks a significant development for Greek gastronomy, recognising the distinct food cultures and dining experiences offered by three of the country’s most prominent destinations.

Thessaloniki and Santorini join Athens

Until now, the MICHELIN Guide’s Greek restaurant selection has focused on Athens. The 2027 edition will extend its coverage to Thessaloniki, known for its diverse culinary traditions and multicultural food influences, and Santorini, whose gastronomy draws on the island’s volcanic landscape and distinctive local produce.

The expansion was first announced in December 2025, when the Guide’s independent and anonymous inspectors began evaluating restaurants in the two additional destinations.

The new selection is expected to introduce international diners to a wider range of Greek culinary experiences, from contemporary fine dining to restaurants showcasing regional ingredients and local traditions.

Michelin distinctions put Greek restaurants on the global stage

The MICHELIN Guide awards several distinctions to restaurants based on its inspectors’ assessments.

These include one, two and three MICHELIN Stars, recognising outstanding cooking, as well as the MICHELIN Green Star for restaurants demonstrating a commitment to sustainable gastronomy.

The Bib Gourmand distinction highlights establishments offering good-quality food at reasonable prices, while the MICHELIN Selected category recognises restaurants recommended by the Guide.

The October 20 announcement will reveal which restaurants in Athens, Thessaloniki and Santorini earn recognition in the 2027 selection.

A boost for Greece’s gastronomy tourism

The expanded selection comes as Greece continues to promote food and culinary experiences as an important part of its tourism offering.

By extending the Guide’s coverage to Thessaloniki and Santorini, the GNTO and MICHELIN Guide aim to showcase the diversity of Greek gastronomy to international visitors.

The announcement will also place greater attention on the chefs, restaurants and local food producers contributing to the country’s evolving culinary identity.

The 2027 selection is expected to strengthen Greece’s profile as a destination for travellers seeking experiences that combine food, culture and regional character.
