French President Emmanuel Macron honoured two giants of American cinema, Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro, in New York on Wednesday evening for their “dedication to cinema and its preservation”, according to one of the attendees.
Macron awarded the 83-year-old Martin Scorsese the rank of Grand Officer of the National Order of the Legion of Honour.
The acclaimed director has spent decades working to restore the world’s cinematic heritage and supporting independent cinema.
