The body of popular Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis will lie in state from Sunday evening at the Holy Trinity Church in Nikaia, where friends and fans will have the opportunity to pay their final respects.
Mazonakis’ family announced that the singer’s body will be taken to the church on Sunday, September 13, his beloved church and parish in Nikaia.
The public vigil will begin at 7.30pm on Sunday and continue into the early hours of Monday.
In a statement, the family said they wanted friends and supporters who wished to do so to have the opportunity to say goodbye to the singer in person.
Mazonakis’ funeral will take place on Monday, September 14, at the Third Cemetery of Athens, in a private ceremony attended by close family members.
The family has also asked those wishing to pay tribute to Mazonakis to consider making a donation to Humanity Greece instead of sending flowers or wreaths.
The family said: “With broken hearts and unspeakable grief, we inform you that on Sunday, September 13, the body of our beloved Giorgos will be at the Holy Trinity Church in Nikaia, his beloved church and parish, so that friends who wish may say goodbye to him in person.”
