Police are seeking unknown thieves who managed to make off with tens of thousands of euros after blowing up a cash machine outside a supermarket northwest of Athens.
No injuries were reported from the strong pre-dawn blast on Saturday at Inofyta in the Viotia region. The thieves are believed to have managed to grab about €100,000 from the destroyed machine.
They left scores of charred and half-burnt banknotes behind, with a face value of about €2,500. In such attacks thieves typically fill the ATM with flammable gas and then light it in order to get at the cash inside.
Police are looking through CCTV footage from the vicinity in a bid to track the thieves.
