The Olympic Athletic Center of Athens (OAKA), Greece’s largest sports complex, will operate under heightened security measures and special traffic regulations from Friday through Sunday due to an expected surge of visitors for a sold-out Metallica concert at the Olympic Stadium.
OAKA management said the priority is the safety of athletes, visitors and staff. Operations at sports facilities and parking areas across the complex will be adjusted during the three-day period, and construction and dismantling work for the large-scale concert production will also take place.
Officials urged the public to avoid using private vehicles to reach the complex whenever possible, citing the need to reduce traffic congestion and ensure smooth operations.
In a statement, OAKA said: “We warmly request the cooperation of all so that your visit to OAKA is a safe and pleasant experience. Please strictly follow instructions from authorities and OAKA staff.”
Metallica’s Athens performance is part of the M72 World Tour supporting their 2023 album “72 Seasons.” It marks the band’s return to Greece after 16 years and their fifth appearance in the country.
The concert promoter released an extensive list of prohibited items days ahead of the event, warning that any banned items brought to the venue will be confiscated at entry. The list includes large bags, weapons of any kind, sharp objects, pepper spray, flammable materials, professional cameras with detachable lenses, recording equipment, drones, animals, large umbrellas, chairs or stools, chains, banners, flags, poles, inflatable items, projectiles, laser pointers, fireworks, air horns, alcohol and drugs.
