Two youths arrested over mini market robberies in northern Athens

Authorities have arrested a 16-year-old and a 20-year-old in connection with a series of robberies and attempted robberies targeting mini markets in Athens’ northern suburbs in April, police said.

After giving statements to authorities, the two were released under restrictive conditions, including mandatory appearances at a police station.

They were apprehended last week after a failed hold-up at a mini market in Kifissia, where the shop owner resisted, forcing them to flee. Police were quickly alerted and, drawing on information from previous incidents, tracked them down and made the arrests.

Investigators, using testimonies, security footage and evidence from home searches, linked the suspects to two robberies and one attempted robbery in Vrilissia, Halandri and Marousi. One of the two youths used a pistol in the robberies, the footage showed.

In Vrilissia on April 5, the pair allegedly managed to steal €1,500 from a cash register after using force.
