Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis has accused PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis of retreating from months-long talks with the government over appointments to Greece’s independent authorities.
Speaking to Mega TV on Saturday, Marinakis said the appointments require a three-fifths majority in Parliament’s Conference of Presidents, making cross-party cooperation constitutionally necessary.
He said three authorities remain without leadership, with some terms expired for up to four years.
Marinakis said more than 40 candidates were reviewed and that both sides had converged on two nominees, including Katerina Syngouna for the Data Protection Authority.
He accused Androulakis of changing position at the last moment, pursuing only his preferred nominee and engaging in a “double game” by simultaneously courting other opposition parties and attacking the government publicly.
