The Association of Greek Prosecutors has condemned as “impermissible interference” a call by the Athens Bar Association for the resignation of Supreme Court prosecutor Konstantinos Tzavellas over his handling of the wiretapping case.
In a statement, the prosecutors’ association said the bar association’s request fell outside any constitutional or legislative framework.
“The administration of justice is governed exclusively by the Constitution and the laws and is not subject to pressures or interventions that seek to influence judicial judgment or substitute for institutional control procedures,” the association said.
On Monday, Tzavellas said there is no basis to reopen the archived wiretapping case, tied to the Predator spyware, concluding that evidence aired in court does not constitute new material.
The main opposition PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis, one of the targets of the wiretapping operation, called for a parliamentary inquiry into the wiretapping case.
