Tax revenues in the state budget showed an improved performance at the end of the year’s first quarter, with March figures further strengthening the overall fiscal outcome.
According to provisional state budget execution data, the state budget surplus amounted to €1.47 billion in the first quarter of 2026, compared with a target deficit of €111 million included in the introductory report of the 2026 budget; and down from a surplus of €1.61 billion in the same period of 2025.
The primary balance recorded a surplus of €4.37 billion, against a target primary surplus of €2.73 billion and a primary surplus of €4.5 billion in the corresponding period of 2025.
