A teenager has been arrested on the southern island of Crete for allegedly stealing pigs from a farm in the central Iraklio area, authorities said Saturday.
The 18-year-old suspect was taken into custody Friday, a day after he is alleged to have removed the seven animals. He faces charges of animal theft, a discrete crime under Greek legislation.
A police statement did not provide details on how the animals were transported from the farm.
While such offenses are extremely rare throughout the Greek mainland and most of the other islands, on Crete livestock theft remains a widespread problem and arrests are common.
