Man held in connection with Thessaloniki killing

Police said Sunday they have arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with the killing of a 64-year-old man in Thessaloniki, following an investigation into the case.

The victim was found early Saturday morning by a passerby beneath a small bridge near a stream in the Nea Efkarpia area of the northern city. A forensic examination showed he had suffered severe head injuries caused by a blunt object.

Investigators from the Organized Crime and Homicide Division, with support from forensic services in northern Greece, said evidence indicated the killing took place inside the victim’s home before his body was transported and dumped at the location where it was discovered.

Police said the suspect, born in 1984, was identified through a combination of witness statements, forensic evidence and items linked to the crime scene. His alleged involvement was further supported by laboratory analysis and additional investigative findings.

The suspect was arrested and referred to a prosecutor. The investigation is ongoing.
