Police in Crete have arrested a 68-year-old man after they found undeclared weapons in his suitcase and then at his home in Hania. He is facing charges of importing and transporting weapons into the country.
The man was stopped for a random check at Hania Airport on April 8, during which customs officers found eight firearm magazines, two firearm barrels and four geo-location devices in his suitcase, none of which had been declared upon arrival.
They also found undeclared jewelry as well as €29,925 and $1,603 US in cash which was confiscated to establish its origin.
A search of the suspect’s house the next day came up with a combat rifle striker, a flashlight with a laser attached to a firearm, and a taser.
The preliminary investigation is being conducted by the local crime police directorate.
