With 2030 as a milestone, a groundbreaking EU-funded project, 6G-DALI, aims to revolutionize next-generation 6G networks by addressing the critical challenges of data availability, artificial intelligence integration, and energy efficiency.

Coordinated by Greece’s SMARTECH research group at the Industrial Systems Institute (ISI) of the Athena Research Center, the three-year initiative brings together major players, including IBM, Viavi Solutions, and top universities like KU Leuven and Delft University.

“6G networks will redefine communication and applications,” says project coordinator Professor Christos Verykios. From satellite-enabled connectivity to virtual holograms for remote teaching and guidance, the technology promises transformative possibilities.

The project addresses the problem of creating data through experiments in real-world conditions which require significant expenses and high energy demands. The 6G-DALI project provides solutions, training the algorithms of the future with data created much more cost-effectively, through virtual environments and digital replicas, achieving significant energy savings.
