Greek authorities issued an emergency alert Saturday, warning of intense storms expected to hit the Ionian islands of Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Lefkada and coastal areas of Epirus from Saturday evening through midday Sunday.
The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) forecast heavy rain and thunderstorms, particularly in the Ionian Islands, western Greece and the southern Peloponnese, with conditions easing by Sunday afternoon.
The Civil Protection Agency urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, secure loose objects and stay indoors during severe weather. “People should exercise caution and follow official guidance,” officials said.
Authorities also warned against crossing flooded roads and advised businesses to secure outdoor furniture. Residents were told to stay updated on weather alerts and adhere to emergency instructions.
