Patra-Pyrgos road to be completed in December, minister says

The Regional Authority of Attica is implementing an important intervention to ensure the smooth circulation of vehicles and prevent traffic accidents on the Athens-Sounio coastal avenue. The installation of reflective rubber wings aims to limit the entry of vehicles into oncoming traffic, greatly reducing the rate of accidents. They are being installed as a temporary solution, pending the implementation of the study of medium-term interventions on the Varkiza-Sounio coastal avenue, which provides for the structural separation of the road’s traffic lanes with safety parapets, the construction of roundabouts, sidewalks and other interventions, such as a side separation parking island. The study behind intervention claims that traffic accidents will be reduced by more than 40%. [ATTICA REGIONAL AUTHORITY/AMNA]

A major section of the Patra-Pyrgos road will be completed on July 31 and opened for use shortly after, while the entire road will be completed by December, the Infrastructure and Transport Ministry said on Tuesday.

The 65-kilometer highway will be completed and turned over for use in two sections. This includes the main Pyrgos-Alissos section, to be completed on July 31, and the Alissos-Midilogli section (10 km), which will be completed on November 30 this year.
