Sparkle, an international service provider in Italy, and Cyta, the Cypriot telecommunications and digital services provider, have signed an agreement to bring BlueMed to Cyprus.
BlueMed is Sparkle’s new submarine cable system, connecting Italy with France, Greece and other Mediterranean countries. It is part of the Blue-Raman submarine cable system, built in collaboration with Google and other operators, and extends further into the East, to Mumbai, India.
With four pairs of optical fibers and an initial design capacity of over 25 terabits per second (Tbps) per pair, BlueMed offers high speeds and increased reliability throughout its network, meeting the ever-growing needs of the countries it connects, a statement said.
Under the agreement, signed on the sidelines of the Capacity Middle East conference in Dubai, Sparkle will create a BlueMed branch, which will terminate at Cyta’s Geroskipou station. Cyta will utilize one of the BlueMed fiber pairs to enhance Cyprus’ connectivity with Greece and other Mediterranean countries and Cyta’s ability to meet the ever-increasing demand for advanced internet services and digital content in Cyprus.
