Despite a tumultuous year marked by a highly publicized feud with Kendrick Lamar that tarnished his reputation, Drake shows no signs of slowing down as he gears up for his highly anticipated ‘Anita Max Win’ tour.
The Canadian rapper, born Aubrey Graham, touched in Melbourne on January 9, ahead of his first show in Perth, with a red solo cup. Known for his love of luxury, Drake flaunted a $700k win at Crown Casino, sharing glimpses of his lavish stay in a presidential suite through Instagram posts and stories.
Drake didn’t stop there, booking out the upscale French restaurant Maison Batard, owned by renowned Melbourne restaurateur Chris Lucas, for his crew. Later, the rapper and his entourage hit up the venue’s exclusive underground club, Le Club, also owned by Lucas, for a top-secret performance.
The intimate event took place on Friday night, with Drake treating 100 lucky guests (including 30 members of his inner circle and security) to a night of karaoke that stretched into the early hours. Special invitees included 25 Miss Universe contestants, Maison Batard owner Chris Lucas and his family, and renowned chef Bianca Roccisano.
When approached by the Herald Sun, Lucas kept details under wraps, saying, “While I can’t confirm or deny a private concert took place, this is what Melbourne is all about — creating some of the best world-class spaces that people can come to from all over the world.”
Drake’s ‘Anita Max Win tour will take him across Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and back to Sydney before concluding in Auckland, New Zealand, from February 4 to March 16. This marks the rapper’s return to Australia after a seven-year hiatus.
