A 48-year-old man arrested over his alleged involvement in the murder of a land surveyor in Athens in July 2023 was given until Tuesday to testify over the crime after appearing before an investigative magistrate on Saturday.
The suspect is charged with complicity in intentional homicide, with authorities alleging that he provided the murder suspect with the gun and the getaway vehicles (a scooter and a car). A 44-year-old man has already been arrested as the murder suspect.
In the past, the 48-year-old had also been accused of participating in the kidnapping of shipowner Pericles Panagopoulos in January 2009, during which his family paid a significant ransom for his release.
Fifty-four-year-old surveyor Panagiotis Stathis was shot outside his office in the northern Athenian suburb of Neo Psychiko while driving his business partner’s vehicle. He had been conducting land survey studies on Mykonos, Paros, and Ios since the late 1990s through a technical company he co-owned.
