Hoteliers in mountain destinations, especially those near ski resorts, have been talking about the best January for many years.
However, it is not only the snow that has boosted January’s tourism performance, as northern Greece is also recording a large increase in visitors to its other destinations, not only by Greeks but also travelers from Bulgaria and Turkey.
Turkish visitors, especially those with relatively high per capita spending, are now coming in large numbers, not only to destinations such as Alexandroupoli and Thessaloniki, but also to destinations in between, such as Drama, which rarely saw travelers from the neighboring country.
