The long-delayed Poli Chrysochous-Paphos highway project in western Cyprus, now estimated to cost a staggering 330 million euros, is finally moving forward with a completion target set for 2030-2032.
Cyprus Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades provided updates during a meeting with local officials on Friday, emphasizing the government’s commitment to infrastructure that fosters regional development and connectivity. The project, initially conceived as a two-lane road, has evolved into a full four-lane highway, reflecting its importance as a key transport link in Cyprus.
The Poli-Paphos highway has been under discussion for years, but tangible progress has been slow. The project is now set to be built in phases, with the first section (Agia Marinouda to Stroumbi) expected to begin construction this year after a tender is awarded by September. This phase, spanning 15.5 kilometers, is estimated to cost €96 million plus value-added tax and will take three years to complete.
The second section, from Stroumbi to Poli Chrysochous, will follow, with tenders planned for 2026 and completion projected for 2031.
