Olympiakos added a second win in its Spanish expedition this week, beating Real Madrid, while Panathinaikos endured a second defeat in the same country, losing at Baskonia.
Olympiakos keeps going strong at the top of the Euroleague standings thanks to an emphatic display at Real Madrid, winning 96-86 on Thursday.
The Reds maintained a clear lead for most of the game in Spain, that reached up to 22 points (78-56) early in the final quarter, mainly thanks to their amazing rate outside the 6.75-meter line (53.3%).
This was the Greeks’ 16th win in 22 matches, with an irrepressible Evan Fournier notching up 28 points, scoring at will.
Panathinaikos, on the other hand, slumped to a 13-9 record, after going down 91-77 at Baskonia on Friday.
The Greens’ defense was reminiscent of its poor showing at Barcelona, at Partizan and at Efes earlier this season, decomposing just when the offense was trying to fight back. Therefore the visitors played catch-up throughout the match at Vitoria, to no avail.
Kendrick Nunn was anonymous for a second game in a row, with seven points again, and only Cedi Osman with 16 and Omer Yurtseven with 14 stood tall.
