Treating vocational training as a “poor relation” of general education is a mentality that must be reversed, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has told students attending a model vocational high school in Perama, Piraeus.
“Vocational training can open extremely interesting avenues of professional advancement and progress, and we must face it with the importance it deserves,” Mitsotakis said, in a video call following up on a visit to the school in December 2023.
Mitsotakis spoke of new professions that were created in the economy and technology, such as electronic car technicians.
The purpose of model vocational schools, he said, was “to acquire experiences and knowledge that we can then pass on to all vocational schools.”
Describing his vision for Greece’s future, Mitsotakis said he envisages a country that “would provide vocational school students with the exact same opportunities as children studying at another school.”
