The Greek Parliament’s ethics committee has overwhelmingly recommended suspending state funding for the far-right Spartans party.
All party representatives on the committee voted in favor of the decision, except for two lawmakers from the Spartans and the ultraconservative Niki (Victory) party.
The recommendation comes after a recent amendment by the Interior Ministry that allows Parliament to suspend funding for parties associated with individuals convicted under specific criminal provisions, pending judicial review.
Currently, approximately €450,000 in state funds are pending disbursement to political parties, a portion of which was allocated to the Spartans.
Eleven members of the Spartans party are accused of deceiving voters and supporting a convicted criminal organization. Prosecutors allege that the MPs have ties to Ilias Kasidiaris, a jailed member of the now-defunct neo-fascist Golden Dawn party.
