A 33-year-old Palestinian man was remanded in custody on Monday after being charged with attacking a 29-year-old woman with a metal rod on December 20 in the Exarchia district of Athens, leaving her critically injured.
He denied the charges of attempted murder, illegal weapon possession, and use during his court testimony, where he appeared without a lawyer.
Authorities revealed the man has a criminal history, including a June 12 arrest for allegedly attempting to assault a 64-year-old woman. Despite the serious accusations, he was previously released without restrictions.
Residents of Exarchia had circulated warnings and photos of the suspect, claiming he attacked women and posed a significant danger. The case has heightened concerns over public safety in the neighborhood.
