Olympiakos thrashed AEK 4-1 in Sunday’s derby to go alone on top of the Super League table, as Aris suffered a shock loss at home to Volos. PAOK and Panathinaikos follow the leader through hard-fought road wins.
Ayoub El Kaabi scored a hat trick and Gelson Martins added the fourth goal as the Reds eclipsed their visitors who had equalized with Anthony Martial.
The defensive errors cost AEK dearly, including a penalty conceded just five minutes into the match at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium, with Olympiakos being lethal in its final efforts. AEK ended the game with 10 men due to the straight red shown to Erik Lamela.
Aris dropped from the top after suffering its second loss in a row, this time a 1-0 home reverse to Volos. Mark Koszta scored for the visitors at the Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium of Thessaloniki.
PAOK came from behind to beat host Asteras 2-1 at Tripoli. The local team led with Federico Macheda, but the champions bounced back with Simon Deli and Abdul Baba Rahman to take all three points.
Panathinaikos also won 2-1 away, overcoming the very strong resistance of Panetolikos. Filip Djuricic put the Greens ahead, Giannis Bouzoukis pulled the Agrinio team level, but Willian Arao scored two minutes into injury time for Panathinaikos to clinch its third league win in a row.
Olympiakos has 24 points, PAOK is on 23, Panathinaikos reached 22, AEK and Aris stayed on 21 and Panetolikos follows with 18.
In other weekend games, Panserraikos won 2-1 at Athens Kallithea and Lamia drew 1-1 with OFI Crete.
