A 4.2 magnitude earthquake was registered off the eastern island of Kos on Friday morning. There were no reports of injuries or damage.
According to the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, the epicenter of the quake, which struck at 11.29 a.m., was 33 kilometers south-southwest of Kefalos, the westernmost town of the island, at a depth of more than 100 km.
Greece lies in one of the world’s most seismically active areas, and earthquakes are common. However, fatalities and major damage are rare occurrences.
