While addressing the “The Great Oceans Dialogue” in New Delhi, organized for the first time by the Indian Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and the Observer Research Foundation of India, Greek Shipping and Island Policy Minister Christos Stylianides referred to Greek shipping’s leading role as a catalyst for the support of the global supply chain and prosperity, as well as the protection of maritime safety and security, especially in crucial sea corridors.
Stylianides also referred to the need to enhance international cooperation both bilaterally with India as well as in the context of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) against the modern challenges relating to decarbonization and digitalization, attracting young people to the maritime profession and the need to specialize and develop the skills of seafarers.
During his visit to New Delhi, Stylianides met with Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal. The two top officials reaffirmed the two countries’ alignment in the tackling of the modern challenges in shipping and laid the foundations for the deepening of their shipping relationship on multiple levels such as the development of maritime freight networks, in investments in marine and maritime infrastructure, as well as in new fuels.
The Greek minister reiterated Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ and the Greek government’s commitment for a closer and multi-level cooperation between Greece and India. On the sidelines of the conference, Stylianides met with representatives of Indian public and private agencies in the wider sector.
