New Democracy’s ethics committee has unanimously approved Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ decision to expel former prime minister and lawmaker Antonis Samaras from the ruling party’s parliamentary group.
According to reports, no objections were raised during the brief session on Tuesday. The decision is set to be formally submitted to the speaker of Parliament on Wednesday.
Samaras, 73, known for his hard-line nationalist stance, was ousted due to his persistent criticism of government policies. He had strongly opposed Mitsotakis’ approach to talks with Turkey, which he described as appeasement, and condemned policies he deemed excessively “centrist” or “woke” – especially a decision earlier this year to legalize same-sex marriage.
