Olympiakos avenged its recent league loss to Panathinaikos beating the Greens away on Friday for the Euroleague by five points.

The 94-89 triumph of the Piraeus team at the Olympic Sports Hall has brought the two Greek teams level at the table with a 5-3 record. However it was also one of the most memorable and enjoyable clashes between the two Eternal Rivals in recent years.

Olympiakos led almost throughout the game, but its lead that had come up to 13 points (30-17 and 38-25) in the first half vanished in the second, with the Greens closing the gap, and even momentarily edging ahead two minutes from the end (83-82).

However the Reds were not to be denied, and led by an excellent Evan Fournier they emerged victorious from the Greek derby that will have grabbed the interest of all basketball-loving Europe.

Fournier made 22 points for Olympiakos, followed by Sasha Vezenkov with 20 and Nigel Williams-Goss with 13. On the home side, Kendrick Nunn scored 20, while Mathias Lessort and Juancho Hernangomez notched up 13 each.

Olympiakos coach Giorgos Bartzokas went as far as expressing publicly his gratitude to the owners of Olympiakos basketball club for the signing of Fournier, in his post-game interview.
