The Greek America Foundation, a nonprofit based in New York, is reaching out to runners for next year’s classical Marathon in Athens, as part of an initiative to mobilize the diaspora and raise funds for its cause.
Team Greek America brings together runners from all four corners of the globe who train for the historic 42.195 kilometer race virtually, with the help of team captain Manos Zervakis, who ran and completed the Athens Marathon in 2023.
Participants also attend team-building Zoom meetings and need to donate or raise $1,500 in funds for the Greek America Foundation, whose mission, according to its website, is to “promote, preserve and perpetuate Greek culture, history and ideals in North America.”
