Authorities arrested a 50-year-old man on Monday for allegedly posting content on social media that incited violence ahead of Friday’s planned protests marking the second anniversary of the Tempe train disaster. The exact content of the posts has not been made public.

The posts prompted an intervention by First Instance Prosecutor Aristidis Koreas, who ordered a preliminary investigation to determine whether they constituted incitement to commit criminal acts.

Meanwhile, the Greek police’s cybercrime division was tasked with identifying other individuals behind the inflammatory social media posts.

The February 28, 2023, crash claimed 57 lives. The conservative government continues to face allegations of a cover-up as the investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Officials strongly deny the accusations, arguing that the protests are being politically exploited to weaken the administration.
