Greece is at a critical juncture regarding the penetration of renewable energy sources in the energy mix, a senior executive at the Independent Power Transmission Operator (ADMIE), Ioannis Margaris, said on Friday.
Speaking at the 4th Innovation Forum of the German-Greek Chamber of Commerce, Margaris, who is ADMIE’s deputy chairman and general director of technology, system development and strategy, explained that in the coming years the further penetration of “green” energy into the system will be accompanied by increasing challenges at the technical, institutional and regulatory level.
Margaris emphasized that the model applied at present for granting connection conditions is outdated and should be revised, with the formation of a new framework to protect both the electricity network and investors.
Regarding cooperation between ADMIE and its German counterpart for the electricity corridor connecting the two countries, the Green Aegean Interconnector, he noted that planning is progressing, focusing on the mutual benefits to result from its implementation.
