Greek Parliament will elect the new president in the fourth and last round of voting on Wednesday, with the candidate of the ruling Conservatives expected to secure the reduced required majority of 151 lawmakers.
Former parliament speaker Konstantinos Tasoulas received 160 votes in the 300-seat House, as he had in the previous two rounds, relying mainly on support from the governing New Democracy party, of which he is a member.
In the previous rounds, leftist SYRIZA and New Left’s pick, Louka Katseli, garnered 40 votes, Tasos Giannitsis, supported by the main PASOK opposition, got 34 votes, and Kostas Kyriakou, the far-right Niki party’s candidate, received 14 votes.
The vote is set to begin at 10 a.m.
The term of the outgoing president, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, expires on March 13.
