Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Wednesday that President Recdep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will meet in April during the next bilateral Supreme Cooperation Council.

But Greek diplomats are not so sure.

While an April date is still in play, nothing has been finalized, Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday, following a Fidan interview with Turkey’s Anadolu news agency.

One reason the meeting could be postponed is Turkey’s aggressive interference with an Italian-owned research vessel working on the project of Cyprus, Greece and Israel’s power grid connection.

Defense Minister Nikos Dendias, on a visit to Cyprus Wednesday, said that while he supported talks, Turkey’s reaction to the power grid connection and energy projects in the Cyclades islands “does not leave me especially optimistic.”
