A repeat drunk driver has been handed a 17-month jail sentence, which he can buy off at the rate of €10 a day, by a Thessaloniki court.
When he was stopped by police on Tuesday in the Oreokastro area of the city, police found him to be over the legal limit and to be driving with a license, which was revoked in March 2024 for five years after he was found drunk behind the wheel on two other occasions.
The 38-year-old defendant told the court that he had consumed “5 to 6 beers at a friend’s birthday” and that he used his car because he had to go to work.
The man was making dangerous maneuvers in his car when stopped by police.
