A train pantograph collapsed onto the platform at the Athens Airport station Monday, narrowly avoiding injuries, according to the Panhellenic Union of Train Drivers. Hellenic Train confirmed the incident.
“By pure luck, no one was hurt as the pantograph fell in front of terrified passengers,” the union stated, criticizing management for prioritizing “favoritism over safety” and contesting worker strikes in court.
Hellenic Train reported the incident occurred during a Piraeus-Airport service and was swiftly managed to ensure passenger and staff safety. The company is collaborating with authorities to investigate the cause.
